Ipte-hal was 17-years-old when she was burned in her native Sudan after a disgruntled business partner of her father’s threw sulfuric acid on her face. Following the incident, Ibte-hal and her family fled Sudan and came to Los Angeles.

As a young adult, Ipte-hal, 25, has suffered from the disfigurement of the attack. She received burns to her left eye and lips, which also caused the loss of sight in her left eye.

The Children’s Burn Foundation learning of her story provided the funds for her to have reconstructive surgery with world renowned surgeons Dr. Richard Grossman and Dr. Henry Kawamoto. Ipte-hal has received skin grafts to her upper lip and eyelids as well as the removal of scar tissue to her eyelids.

She is currently scheduled to undergo multiple-stage surgeries, which will result in an eye prosthetic being placed into her damaged left eye.
