The majority of child burns occur in the home. Most of these injuries could have been prevented by awareness and burn prevention education. Children's Burn Foundation is dedicated to reducing these needless tragedies through the education of parents, caregivers and children on lifesaving burn and fire prevention skills.

Safety Smart Babies, L.A.Troupe, and Careful, That's Hot! all educate individuals who are able to influence and reduce child burn risks. Those programs offer critical burn and fire prevention messages and resources to parents, caregivers, children, teens and their families. Read more about these programs below!

Safety Smart Babies

Are you expecting a baby or do you work with parents of newborns? Safety Smart Babies for expecting and new parents, raises awareness of burn dangers to infants and teaches prevention skills. This program is available in English and Spanish at maternity events, new parent groups, childbirth classes and pediatrician offices. Health fairs and baby showers and can be customized to meet your needs.

We also partner with hospital maternity units to offer a free burn prevention checklist and an infant bath thermometer to all new parents upon discharge and well baby visits.

L.A. Troupe

L.A. Troupe is a highly inventive theatrical group that teaches young children life-saving fire safety and burn prevention skills in person and online. Children learn to crawl low under smoke, check doors for heat, locate safety spots, test smoke detectors monthly, and to never play with matches.

Children are entranced by the story of Scatterbrained Wanda, who hopes to make her house "fire-safe" for inspection by the fire marshal, Inspector Danger. Using frequent repetition, call-outs to the audience, and extensive audience participation, students help Wanda make her home fire-safe while experiencing how to make their own home and families safe from burns.

This lively, engaging program is providing innovative, interactive fire safety and prevention performances for elementary school children, kindergarten through 3rd grade, in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Glendale, South Pasadena, Ventura County, Riverside County and Orange County School School districts.

Currently, due to Covid-19 and social distancing, programs have pivoted to an online platform, with children still able to access this much needed education in the classroom through virtual field trips.

Over one million children have been reached to date through this innovative program!
