Burn Prevention and Education

At Children’s Burn Foundation, we believe the best way to treat a burn is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Our burn prevention programs provide life-saving tools to families across all age groups in both English and Spanish.

Safety Smart Babies

Are you expecting a baby or do you work with parents of newborns? Safety Smart Babies for expecting and new parents, raises awareness of burn dangers to infants and teaches prevention skills. This program is available in English and Spanish at maternity events, new parent groups, childbirth classes and pediatrician offices. Health fairs and baby showers and can be customized to meet your needs.

We also partner with hospital maternity units to offer a free burn prevention checklist and an infant bath thermometer to all new parents upon discharge and well baby visits.

L.A. Troupe

L.A. Troupe is a creative theatrical group that teaches young children essential fire safety and burn prevention skills both in person and online. Students learn how to crawl low under smoke, check doors for heat, identify safety spots, test smoke detectors monthly, and understand the dangers of playing with matches.

Children are captivated by the story of Scatterbrained Wanda, who is determined to make her house “fire-safe” before an inspection by Inspector Danger. Through repetition, call-and-response, and active audience participation, students help Wanda make her home safer, while also learning how to keep their own homes and families protected from burn injuries.

This fun, interactive program reaches elementary school children from kindergarten through third grade across the Los Angeles Unified School District, Glendale, South Pasadena, Ventura County, Riverside County, and Orange County school districts.

L.A. Troupe now offers two shows: one focused on indoor fire safety and another on outdoor hazards, including wildfire prevention.

The engaging, theatrical approach helps ensure students absorb these life-saving lessons in a way that’s both educational and memorable.

To date, this innovative program has reached over two million children.
